introduction to daniel scarsdale

angelfeastmy website has way too much information about maurice montgomery (i really should pare some of that down) so i haven't felt it necessary to reproduce info about him here on dreamwidth, but this newest oc is still a conceptual baby so he gets a post all to himself. some of this is copypasted from discord. content warnings for sexual harassment/assault and alcoholism.
a couple visual references: 1, 2, 3. the hair in ref 3 is too fluffy - it should be more like ringo in ref 2. still debating whether he has facial hair other than sideburns. hamish linklater (actor in the first reference) is an acceptable face claim if you need one, though the actor is definitely too tall lol.
basic outline:
american, from california probably or colorado, lay leader at a reform or reconstructionist congregation in the 1970s/80s, accused of sexual harassment. rabbi took pity on him because he was estranged from family and gave him a recommendation for placement in italy - he had distant relatives in the south there (neofiti). got started at a social center for drug addicts that was not officially affiliated with the catholic church but had connections - shared building spaces, priests would lead services for the people they were helping, etc. he'd do music therapy, teaching people how to play basic stuff. his personal instrument of choice is the saxophone but he's not especially talented with it. competent, nothing more.
the center came under financial pressure and entered into an agreement with one of the vatican secret sections (iscariot the order of st michael) to allow them to recruit members in exchange for funding. this agreement made it easier for dan to treat his clients however he liked since the order was more than happy to look the other way as long as he occasionally sent people to them.
after the kjv guard attack on the vatican at the end of 1999*, the order was forced to stop funding the social center and dan was effectively laid off when the center decided to cut music therapy from their programming and he didn't want to provide any other services with them. he had enough money saved up to just drive around, hoping to make a career as a traveling musician. he was able to earn a little bit but not enough to make a name for himself. dies in a drunken one-car accident while driving the amalfi coast.
re the harassment accusation: it was real lol. weighing how much of a creep to make him but he's definitely a predator of some kind. i'm not aware of many fictional rapists who are bottoms so that could be interesting. and like, if he's stealth, then part of being a Real Man is being sexually aggressive, right? (also fun: the idea of him and maurice bonding over substance abuse while at the center where clients can see/overhear them.... maurice would likely be sent by the order to check on operations/recruitment every now and then. dan's a functioning alcoholic but it's ok because the center focuses on different substances!)
dan's probably of average-to-above-average height for a trans man - around 5'4 or 5'5 - and has a soft but not obviously overweight body. lots of body hair and doesn't hesitate to show it off in true '70s style, even after '70s style has gone out of fashion. not sure yet if he's had top surgery (if not he'd be a very small a-cup, enough to stay stealth without having to bind) but he's had basic meta, just a release. when he starts working at the center he's around 45 years old and he's likely 55 or 60-something when he dies.
i got the inspiration for him after listening to a lot of steely dan, hence the name, but he might also go by jack (vis-a-vis "do it again")? haven't ironed that out yet. the last name is from "hey nineteen" lol. i'm also taking some loose inspo from the 1974 movie only god knows.
"deacon blues" is basically his personal anthem - he's the kind of guy who doesn't grok the irony in the lyrics, or if he does he's too depressed to care. but the alcohol helps mask the depression and keeps him cheerful and outgoing around others.
he's a very friendly sexual predator. noncon but he's nice about it, etc. pressures people into it like the david carradine scene linked here (approximately 17 minutes and 30 seconds in if the timestamp doesn't work) and often leaves them confused as to whether they were just assaulted, especially since he's a bottom. i saw that scene after i'd decided he was a serial harasser but the energy of it is perfect for him.
