my website has way too much information about maurice montgomery (i really should pare some of that down) so i haven't felt it necessary to reproduce info about him here on dreamwidth, but this newest oc is still a conceptual baby so he gets a post all to himself. some of this is copypasted from discord. content warnings for sexual harassment/assault and alcoholism.

a couple visual references: 1, 2, 3. the hair in ref 3 is too fluffy - it should be more like ringo in ref 2. still debating whether he has facial hair other than sideburns. hamish linklater (actor in the first reference) is an acceptable face claim if you need one, though the actor is definitely too tall lol.

basic outline:
american, from california probably or colorado, lay leader at a reform or reconstructionist congregation in the 1970s/80s, accused of sexual harassment. rabbi took pity on him because he was estranged from family and gave him a recommendation for placement in italy - he had distant relatives in the south there (neofiti). got started at a social center for drug addicts that was not officially affiliated with the catholic church but had connections - shared building spaces, priests would lead services for the people they were helping, etc. he'd do music therapy, teaching people how to play basic stuff. his personal instrument of choice is the saxophone but he's not especially talented with it. competent, nothing more.

the center came under financial pressure and entered into an agreement with one of the vatican secret sections (iscariot the order of st michael) to allow them to recruit members in exchange for funding. this agreement made it easier for dan to treat his clients however he liked since the order was more than happy to look the other way as long as he occasionally sent people to them.

after the kjv guard attack on the vatican at the end of 1999*, the order was forced to stop funding the social center and dan was effectively laid off when the center decided to cut music therapy from their programming and he didn't want to provide any other services with them. he had enough money saved up to just drive around, hoping to make a career as a traveling musician. he was able to earn a little bit but not enough to make a name for himself. dies in a drunken one-car accident while driving the amalfi coast.

this will probably be mostly furibe (maurice nee makube/fritz) but we'll see what happens!

quick note: makube is technically from hellsing but he is for all intents and purposes a blank slate so. he's my oc maurice now and identifying him as makube hellsing on ao3 is simply a concession. if it's not set in the hellsing canon then i won't call him makube.
